Where I'm going, Gangwon-do! Highlighted in purple
I’m off work next week for a holiday up to Gangwon-do (province) – on the top right-hand side of South Korea, and Seoul. Whilst on my journeys, I hope to visit Seoraksan, the DMZ, and get down and dirty in downtown, dirty Seoul. She’s gotta be cold, Gangwon-do’s the coldest part of the country and there’s already been snow flurries round me in Suncheon, one of the warmest parts of the country. Looks like I’ve missed the Autumn foliage, though will probably get some snow, better bring the long johns!
I’ll come back armed with pics and hopefully my life, which could be on the cards considering news reports like this!
It’s currently dropping tiny pellets of watery snow outside my window here in ‘old’ downtown Suncheon, the first snow of the season in the middle of an early and very sudden cold snap which started 48 hours ago. I was wearing shorts and playing soccer on a fine Autumn weekend just two days ago! They’re forecasting more of the same for tomorrow. Unfortunately, the snow doesn’t often settle on the ground for long here in Suncheon, unlike up the road in Gwangju and Jeonju where I’ve previously lived and experienced several decent dumps of snow during the winter, and I doubt it’ll settle tonight as it’s probably still just above zero Celsius here.
P.S. I couldn’t be bothered going to soccer training tonight after our big tournament over the weekend in Ulsanbecause it’s cold outside and I’m a soft git, where we performed really well as a team and did not disgrace ourselves winning our first match before losing the following three against strong opposition. The fill-in goalie did a reasonable job for a joker who still doesn’t know just what he’s doing there!
but I’m more than willing to make an exception for these bastards.
Not only did Imam Samudra, Amrozi Nurhasyim, and Ali Ghufronshow no remorse for their planning and execution of the 2002 Bali bombings but, they defiantly disrespected and mocked their victims and passionately defended their mass-murder corrupting their religion in doing so by calling it ‘God’s work to kill infidels’. I hope they’re laughing in hell is all I can say.
Suncheon International FC are on a high after we won 3-1 today to take our recent form to four straight wins. We take on Yeosu tomorrow in the local derby, perfect preparation for next weekend’s Ulsan Cup, where we’ll face much tougher opposition than we’ve recently faced.
A nasty brawl erupted between supporters of Ahmed Elomar and Willie Kickett after Elomar landed a stunning blow to knock down Kickett in the first round after Kickett was dominating the early preceedings.
This is the first I’ve heard of either boxer but apparently “Cool” Willie Kickett is a promising young boxer from Western Australia, whereas Ahmed Elomar from Sydney is a handy boxer with brothers also in the business. It seems the fracas largely resulted from taunts, comments and anger being exchanged between both camps after Elomar’s entourage jumped onto the mat directly after the knock down to celebrate while Kickett was still on the ground. Very poor form. Words and taunts were exchanged and eventually spit, cups, chairs and finally punches were thrown between rival supporters. Fox Sports covering the event called it a disgrace and cut the coverage early. Live fights may well not be shown in Australia for a while now.
I quite like boxing but it’s so easy to be turned off the sport after displays like this, also having individuals like Elomar as role models doesn’t help the sport.
