Daegu : 대구 : 大邱

December 7, 2008

The last photo installment from my travels last week comes from the city of Daegu, South Korea’s third largest city located in the south-east of the country. Daegu’s a pleasant, sprawling metropolis located in a vast plain surrounded by mountains. It’s known for hot weather in summer and beautiful women, Daegu ladies have won a disproportionate number of Miss Korea contests! A nice place for the weekend, indeed. Full collection of photos are located here.

Must watching viewing – a North Korean defector’s story

December 7, 2008

The video below is the life story of an incredibly brave and courageous young man, Mr. Dong Hyuk Shin. Mr. Shin was born and raised in a North Korean concentration camp as a consequence of unknown crimes committed by this grandparents – under North Korea’s regime, family members dating back and ahead three generations are committed to concentration camps on the crimes committed by one individual.

Mr. Shin has been the only person known thus far to have escaped the camp he was born in, Camp No. 14, which was created for political prisoners. He endured hard labour, regular beatings, torture and food rations since childhood, not to mention other unspeakable traumas expressed in the video.

This presentation was organised by the LiNK (Liberty in North Korea) organisation, which actively spreads information on North Korea to the world in the hope in the hope of dismantling the North Korean regime and bringing freedom to the North Korean people and was hosted by Google.

LiNK also accepts donations to help feed and cloth North Korean defectors and to give them hope.
