Joe and Jennifer at SeoulPodcast have brought together Stephanie White, Lee Ramsey and Diane Blower to discuss the tragic and highly suspicious deaths of Stephanie’s son, Matthew, and Lee and Diane’s brothers, Matthew Sellers and David Gearson respectively. The discussion also focuses on the sheer negligence, disregard, incompetence and downright malicious dealings the families of these victims endured following their deaths and continue to endure without closure on just what really occurred in these tragic cases.
Incomplete case files; ad hoc reports, which were later amended; conflicting stories; extortion; the whole lot plus more. The type of story you’d expect from a corrupt backwater Third World dictatorship, not a liberal democracy allied with the US and the world’s 11th largest economy.
The discussion is quite long – over two hours – but is highly emotional, disturbing and required listening for anyone in Korea, planning to come to Korea, and/or anyone with family members in Korea.
Those here now make sure you have registered with your Embassy, have given your family back home your contact details here and keep in regular contact, also pass on your family’s contact details back home to your workplace in the event of any problems.
Although, Korea by and large is a relatively safe place. Crime statistics are so low largely due to police corruption, incompetence, negligence and lack of reporting. It is easy to become lulled into a false sense of security and as this interview painfully illustrates there are many factors which come in to play which make it clear that the death of foreigners on Korean soil is not treated – or at least, until now – with the thoroughness, professionalism and dignity required from any Government, let one with the lofty global ambitions of Korea.
Closure and justice needs to come from these tragic deaths. Word must get out so that these tragic events will NEVER be repriocated again. Stephanie, Lee, Diane and their family and friends deserve at least that much.
