Today’s Song of the Day comes from Scottish alternative rock outfit, Travis. The Glaswegian quartet are one of my favourite bands and they’ve reached a large audience through their often moody, melancholy, bittersweet and sometimes downright depressing music – something an often-times moody, melancholy, bittersweet and downright depressing motherfucker like me can really get into!
“Writing to Reach You” comes from their second album, The Man Who, which cataputed them into fame with the hit “Why Does It Always Rain On Me?” along with “Driftwood”. The band has since kept a loyal band of supporters but hasn’t really found the amount of fame fellow UK bands such as Coldplay and Radiohead have earned. Nevertheless, they’re a great band who keep on churning out great, reflective music and are worth a listen to IMO. Their often memorable and quirky videos are definitely also worth and look at. “Writing to Reach You”‘s video was directed by John Hardwick. Lead singer and writer, Fran Healy admits to stealing the chords from “Wonderwall” by Oasis with the lyric in the song “what’s a Wonderwall anyway?”
While, you’re looking up Travis’ videos, also be sure to check these guys who do a great cover of Travis’ “Happy To Hang Around”.
And, without further a due, enjoy “Writing to Reach You”.
Clever video and a good tune. Thanks for sharing that, Ben.
Hi Mark, yeah it’s a great video and nice tune.
