The second coming of Jesus?
Thanks to goals from Joshua Kennedy – aka. Jesus – and Harry Kewell, Australia’s on the verge of entry to the 2010 FIFA World Cup to be held in South Africa next year after defeating Uzbekistan 2-0 in Sydney last night. Had Bahrain and Qatar drawn last night as opposed to Bahrain’s 1-0 victory, we’d already be on our way. Ironic as we were the last team to qualify last World Cup, we were one goal away from being the first this time! Yet, fear not, given we only have to draw at least one of remaining three matches – two of which are at home – or at worst, lose all three and hope that other team’ don’t conspire against us with fortituous results, we’re in (shut up! I can’t forget the 1986, 1990, 1994, 1998 and 2002 qualification debacles where we more often than not, somehow managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!) .. well on our way.

Josh Kennedy wasn't the only one getting in on the act!

US Journalists, Euna Kim and Laura Ling – sister of journalist Lisa Ling who were detained by North Korean troops along the Tumen River, possibly on the Chinese side on March 17th. They’re subsequently been held under the charges of illegal entry and “hostile acts”, and unfortunately have become most useful pawns for the North Korean regime during these tense times. News of their detention has been incredibly quiet amongst most media outlets which leads me to hope that there is a lot of diplomatic work being undertaken behind the scenes. Nevertheless, I think they will be very fortunate indeed if they make it through this unscathed.
Meanwhile, South Korea went against brotherly love and North – South Korea sports protocol by actually winning a sports – soccer to be precise – encounter between the two Koreas courtesy of a late 86th minute goal from substitute, Kim Chi-woo to win the match for the South Koreans 1-0 in Seoul last night. Luckily, however, it wasn’t enough for mad Lil’ Kim to fire off his toy just yet – that’s still planned some time between this weekend and next Wednesday. Look for shit to hit the fan if Japan – who have every right to – shoot it down if it enters Japanese air space.
